Offering 2 x 40 W of power output from its digital amplifier, this system packs an impressive amount of functionality into its compact case (available in silver or black). The DVD player achieves optimal picture quality from DVDs by upscaling them to pristine 1080p resolution for output to a compatible display. Along with a single-cable HDMI out, the unit includes a component video output.

The DR-645 incorporates a built-in dock on its top panel, which automatically recharges an inserted iPod as long as the system is connected to the mains power. Video content on iPod can be routed to a connected display at the original resolution via the composite or component video outputs.

The system also features a front-panel USB port, which allows users to play back music stored on flash drives or portable audio players.

On top of standard CDs, the DR-645 handles MP3- and WMA-encoded CDs, and offers four MP3 playback modes: Normal, Random, Memory, and Folder. To ensure that users can access the vast quantity of freely available broadcast content, the receiver also includes a 20-preset FM tuner. At the press of a button, a multi-mode timer/clock can be programmed to wake the user to a chosen radio station.
